How To Play Any Racing Game In VR
Disclaimer at the top: I'm not talking full 6DOF VR like we get in AC or iracing.
This is gonna put a giant curved 100" 3D display right in front of your face, inside your headset. It's going to look like you're entirely in VR. You will, however, see the edges of the giant screen.
ReShade:
Open Reshade, scroll to the game you want. Click Next.
Select the rendering API used by the game. Most current games will be covered with DirectX 10/11/12. Click Next.
Check Depth3D by BlueSkyDefender. If anything else is already checked, just leave it. Click Next.
Leave everything checked. Click Next.
Leave everything checked. Click Next.
Click finished.
Start your game.
Text at the top left corner will instruct you to hit the 'Home' key.
Click your Home key then click continue until you're at the screen you see to the right.
Only select SuperDepth3D_VR then click finish.
Click your 'Home' key again to exit the menu and you will be greeted with a side by side image.
This only works in a 16:9 format. Change your in-game resolution to a 16:9 format. 2560 x 1440 works best for my ultrawide. You may want to try 1600x900 to start.
Virtual Desktop:
Alt tab out of the game and launch Virtual Desktop. Steam will allow you to start up Virtual Desktop while your game is still running.
Under '3d Options' check 'Half SBS' or just hit F7.
Done!
Tweaks and adjustments:
You can tweak screen size, distance, and curve to your liking. Below are the settings I've found work best for me.
Under 'Environment' select None. Default background is distracting.
You may need to adjust your IPD distance to find a sweet spot.
WreckFest
Need For Speed Heat
The Crew 2
Trackmania
Gravel
WRC Generations
These are just a few I've tried that have all worked great.
Have fun with this new found super power! This works for non racing games as well. Not all games will produce the same results. I've found some games where the 3D effect is barely noticeable or warps the images horribly.
BeamNG and NFS Unbound brought my PC to it's knees with this method. let me tell you, not a good time at 20 frames per second.
To UnInstall Reshade from a game:
Open Reshade, scroll to your game.
Select the Rendering API.
Select Uninstall.
Quick and painless. That'll remove it from that game only.
